One to one sessions with Rik can be in person or online, and are about an hour in length, allowing flexibility to honour the value and the vulnerability of the work. Regular meetings can be flexible too, so as to work around our life commitments, and their frequency may be reduced as you step towards independence.
I offer a sliding price scale of £45 to £110 per meeting. If you choose the higher end of this scale it will enable me to offer this work to those with less financial capacity. If you consider this pricing a barrier, I welcome you to contact me to discuss it.
Rather than revisiting the past, I offer a gentle process of exploring what is alive in you now. All aspects of your inner world are welcomed in the understanding that they are all there for some beautiful reason, regardless of how they presently appear. Each part has its story of how it is motivated to support you. In being compassionately heard and understood, a sense of integrated being is nurtured which leads to the possibility of choosing alternative behaviours. This is a process of self-empowerment such that clients step up to take ownership of their work in their own time.The past cannot be changed, but how we relate to it can be.

Embodiment, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) work together as compassionate approaches to understand and awaken our natural capacity to restore health. You will have support to be your authentic self, to acknowledge all the parts of you that show up in different situations, and to see them for their underling care and love for which you originally invited them into you life. It is a process of self-compassion and self-empowerment, of getting to know and love yourself, and of integrating all aspects of yourself.
This is a journey of befriending the body by compassionate listening to its tangible language. Physical sensations, along with the images and words which they provoke, are understood as messages and longings from the body. A louder voice indicates a greater anxiety to be heard. Resisting the habitual flow into reactive emotion takes curiosity to hold self-connection and presence awareness. The journey becomes one of building trust in the underling benevolent intension within that expression; that the body is instinctively reaching to enrich life.
I am reminded of the child’s cartoon ‘Scooby Doo’. A shadow of a terrible monster appears on a wall, which is later revealed to be the shadow of a tiny mouse passing close to a candle! This is about welcoming our inner shadows, acknowledging their expression of fear and anguish, and receiving them as valued messengers. Their compassionate holding invites recognition of what they truly are, what they value and care to protect. This understanding and acceptance leads to enabling choice as to how their energy can be used more effectively.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence based compassionate approach to healing emotional wounding. The internal world is perceived to consist of aspects or parts which are characterised by emotion, outlook and mood. Each has value and a positive intent, but may take on an extreme role in an effort to be safe. These extreme parts become less disruptive and more cooperative once their concerns are addressed and they feel safe.
Embodiment is the living awareness of how your sense of being is rooted in the physical body. It is a journey of letting go of defensiveness, of nurturing self-acceptance and of stepping towards being at peace as your authentic self. It is the capacity to be both be aware of and understand the feedback messages the tangible felt sense brings to how life can be enriched. A sense of meaning arises as your mode of living and being comes into alignment with the energy of the natural world that we are a part of.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a process that uses language in a way that is connected to the heart and the underlying bodily yearnings. In the assumption that all these yearnings are common to all people, the underlying intension of our words and actions will carry a shared root, a place in which we all may meet. NVC bridges mind and body such that words may resonate with authenticity. It supports focus on what is of underling value, naming it in a way that invites clarity and ease. There is nothing to heal within, it is our showing up whilst carrying our pain that may be difficult for others, and the act of being witnessed with open compassion opens the possibility of change. In the recognition of our interdependence, our mutual reliance upon one another, we nurture our joy in giving compassionately.
